Object Description

A molded figure of Kuan-yin, seated in a meditation pose with her hands folded together in her sleeves and the edge of her robe spread out to form a base; her hair is tied in a chignon on top of her head with two loose strands pushed back, one over each ear; her robe is opened across the chest, revealing a jewelled necklace; the white clay body of the figure is covered with an ivory glaze which wells thickly within the folds of her robe; the head was made separately and luted to the body; the interior of the figure, with the exception of the flat base, is also glazed.
