The unified nation of Greece as we know it today was founded in 1830 after centuries of ethnic diaspora and division. This medal, designed and produced by the Paris Mint, commemorates the birth of Prince Constantine, the first Greek-born royal family member. Previous rulers of modern Greece were all foreign-born, and the birth of the Prince in 1868 was a cause of great celebration in Athens.
