N. THE BIRTH OF ADONIS (Met. 10, 502-16)
At the left, Myrrha, whose transformation into a tree is almost complete. From her trunk Lucina, kneeling, draws the infant Adonis. She is assisted by three naiads, one seen at the right arriving with a large basin. In the background, a forested river landscape.
