Jacques Jonghelinck

Jacques Jonghelinck

(Antwerp, 10/21/1530 - 5/31/1606)

The most prolific Flemish medalist, also a sculptor and seal engraver, Jonghelinck was born in Antwerp. He visited Italy in 1552 and may have worked under Leone Leoni. He was seal engraver to the king in Brussels from 1556-72 and master of the mint after 1572. JongheUnck's medals reflect the influence of Italian art.
