William Wyon, R.A.
William Wyon, R.A.
(1795 - 1851)
The most important member of the family of English medalists, Wyon was trained by his father Peter, and strongly influenced by the art of Flaxman. He became second engraver at the royal mint in 1816 and, after a long dispute with Pistrucci, chief engraver in 1828. Wyon engraved many coins of the British Empire, as well as a large number of medals.
