Matthias Wallbaum
Matthias Wallbaum
16th-17th century German goldsmith
(1554 - 1632)
Born 1554 in Kiel, Wallbaum is referred to from 1579 as a goldsmith apprentice in Augsburg. He became master there in 1590 and married. He died on 11 January 1632. Wallbaum was one of the most productive Augsburg goldsmiths of the late Renaissance. He undertook the management of a great workshop, in which were produced works from sketches and models of several of its members and also of artists who were active outside the workshop.
