Frans Floris the Elder
Frans Floris the Elder
Renaissance Early Netherlandish painter and printmaker
(Antwerp, Belgium, ca. 1519 - 1570, Antwerp, Belgium)
Note: He was a leading exponet of Romanism in Antwerp, and he is largely responsible for introducing the Italian system of studios organized with multiple assistants to the Netherlands. Michelangelo's 'Last Judgment,' which he saw being unveiled, made an indelible impression on him and his religious and his mythological works are typically crowded with Mannerist nudes.
