Object Description

Earthenware ceramic pitcher with a transfer printed image of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow on one side, and the Longfellow poem, "Keramos" on the reverse. The rim of the pitcher is decorated with gold and polychrome glaze and is inscribed with the titles of some of Longfellow's more famous works, "Excelsior, Hiawatha, Evangeline, Miles Standish."

poem on one side reads:

KERAMOS Turn, Turn, my wheel! Turn Round and Round Without a pause without a sound: So spins the flying world away! This clay, well mixed with marl and sand, Follows the motion of my hand; For some must follow and some command, Though all are made of clay
