Object Description

William Wegman is best known for his photographs featuring his Weimaraners. The inspiration for this collaboration began with his first dog, Man Ray, and continued with his second, Fay Ray and her litter of puppies. The close involvement of this cast of characters in Wegman’s work produced photographs, videos and both children’s books and adult books inspired by the dogs’ personalities. Wegman has created film and video works for Saturday Night Live, Nickelodeon and Sesame Street. Numerous retrospectives of Wegman’s work have been made. This print depicts one of Wegman’s beloved subjects in profile view dressed in French style coat and beret against a blurred map backdrop. This print is a specific piece created for the Metropolitan Opera’s production "La Fille du Regiment".
