Object Description

372 PAGAN KING IN A SCROLL ORNAMENT FRAME
A bearded king in armor, cape, and crown with fillet, leans on a spear before a landscape with buildings; in his right hand he holds a saber. Around, scroll ornament with putti, a satyr, a satyr mask, and flowers.
Bronze, dark patina, buckle-shaped, rounded below, 122 X 80 mm. Late cast from an example with pitted surface; two holes in upper portion.

The depiction of the king is based on the Unknown King from the series Die zwolf altesten deutschen Konige by Peter Flotner (Weber, no. 46, 13).
