Trained in the fine arts, Vivika Place assisted Glen Lukens, a leading studio potter at the University of Southern California, before coming east in 1949 to teach at the New Hampshire League of Craftsmen. Otto Heino became captivated by the art of ceramics during World War II. On his return home, he studied on the G.I. Bill at the League of Craftsmen, where he met his future wife Vivika Place. Their technical mastery and sophisticated glazes are visible in the vases seen here. Later in life they relocated to Ojai, California, where they continued their work.
