Bowdoin College Museum of Art

The holdings of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art range in scope from the art of antiquity to that of the present day. Its collections of Decorative Arts, Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper are among the most comprehensive of any college museum in the country, and continue to grow through purchase, gift, and bequest.

The entire permanent collection (over 20,000 objects) is now searchable online. Over half of these artworks are accompanied by images in the online database, and photographic coverage is continually added. While many objects have been professionally imaged, other items from the permanent collection are now accompanied on the online database by a reference photograph that may have been made purely for study purposes.

All images made available online by the Bowdoin College Museum of Art may be used freely for study. However, the publication or commercial distribution of images must be cleared by the Museum. Please note that the BCMA may not hold the rights necessary for the publication of all works in its collection. For more information, please contact Michelle Henning, Assistant to the Registrar (mhenning@bowdoin.edu).
