This small stylized head of an unidentified biblical king recently has been discovered to have been carved for the area of the choir at Chartres Cathedral, where it perfectly joins the neck of a torso in the Cathedral Museum. It exemplifies the High Gothic style, in which delicacy and refinement were put to the service of a naturalistic representation of the world.
