Object Description

Per the artist in a letter to Katy Kline on 5/9/06: "I do not usually do oils that illustrate stories, but I have done Gardens of Eden and Noah's Arks, and this falls in that category. The legend of St. Stephen and King Herod is found in ballad form as #22 in Francis James Child's "The English and Scottish Ballads". That version is in what I would call Medieval English. I am enclosing a more accessible version that I learned Goodness knows where". SEE FILE FOR BALLAD
