Neapolis (today Naples) was a major city in antiquity and its prominence during both ancient Greek and Roman eras bridged the two cultures. The reverse image of this didrachm depicts a man-faced bull, representing the river god Acheloos, which is the most common motif found on ancient Greek Neapolitan coins and emblematic of the city.
