Object Description

This set details the changes that Marie-Madeleine de Vignerot, Duchesse d’Aiguillon, niece and heiress of Armand-Jean du Plessis, Cardinal de Richelieu made to Rueil, the chateau and garden that she inherited from her uncle. Situated near Malmaison, Hauts-de-Seine, this set provided an almost complete picture of this 17th century garden, which was reportedly destroyed by the early 18th century. It was an important source of Italian design for subsequent French garden designers.
