Object Description

Per the James D. Julia Inc.'s Auction Catalogue (End of Summer Spectacular Maine Auction- 2010):
The hanging banner mounted to a round wood dowel with hanging loop having oil painted decoration on both sides with light green later addition yarn fringe. One side with "OUR CHORDS OF EARTHLY HARMONY LEAD TO THE REGIONS OF THE GOLDEN HARP." in cream and black letters with some red and brown shadowing. The reverse with "OUR CABINET ALTHOUGH COMPOSED OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS IS TOO STRONGLY CEMENTED TO BE EASILY SEPARATED." in black letters with some red shadowing. The phrase presented within a wreath of red roses all on a white silk background.

Per the Maine Memory Network in conjunction with the Maine Historical Society - October 2015:
The Cabinet Makers, Chair Makers, Organ Builders, Piano Forte Makers, Turners, and Plane Makers group that was part of the Maine Charitable Mechanic Association of Portland advertised itself in a parade on Oct. 8, 1841 with a banner with a painted wreath of roses and the words, "Our Cabinet, although composed of different materials is too strongly Cemented to be easily Separated."

The reverse reads, "Our Chords of earthly Harmony lead to the regions of the Golden Harp."

Seventeen groups of skilled artisans created hand-painted banners that were part of the parade.
