In 2010, New York-based artist Rob Pruitt presented a gallery exhibition that included this work as part of a series of enormous self-portraits, silkscreened onto large canvases, each consisting of colored stripes with fragmented photographs of his face that formed one hybrid whole. The paintings boldly showcased silly props and costumes in an overwhelming scale. Their impact was matched by other parts of his ambitious installation, such as an assembly of silver coated chairs, painted and stacked tires (used as planters and candy dispensers), wallpaper printed with photos of the artist’s Facebook friends, and paintings developed from photographs of Cinnabon cinnamon buns. Steeped in the aesthetics of Pop Art, Pruitt acknowledged his indebtedness to Andy Warhol in a public monument, The Andy Monument, in Union Square, New York in 2011–2012. He learned from Warhol to regard the borders between art and life as fluid.
