Known primarily as an experimental film-maker, Robert Breer made important contributions to the American “art and technology” movement of the 1960s. The “floats” he developed in the mid-1960s and which he continued to refine into the 1970s were designed to move imperceptibly. This small-scale version, part of a set of multiples, was battery-powered and relates to larger versions of the sculpture that appeared at the 1970 Osaka World’s Fair as part of Pavilion, an installation organized by Experiments in Art and Technology.
