Interested in creating art that resonates with the viewer subconsciously as well as aesthetically, Wendy Lehman works spontaneously, creating bold combinations of color and shape. The strong formal qualities of each of these drawings is suggestive of the sculpture for which Lehman is also known. Although her creative choices are not determined in advance, the artist has noted of her paintings, often executed in series, that “I usually see a strong and definite visual thread through the work sometimes all the way from my childhood to the present.” Good friends with Lehman for many years, the Vogels brought numerous examples of Lehman’s drawings and sculpture into their collection.
