Publicly exhibited for the first time, the painting of Herb and Dorothy Vogel reveals their own talent as artists. Committed to engaging with the idiom of contemporary art, Herb’s work suggests his engagement with the lessons of Abstract Expressionism of the 1950s, while Dorothy’s art reflects an interested in hard-edge geometric painting of the early 1960s. “That’s how we began our early married life,” Dorothy recalls, “not as collectors, but as [aspiring] artists."
