With this print Tuttle returned to traditional printing processes. He selected six gridded areas on a piece of graph paper and transferred them to the hard-ground plate, adding the lines with an etching needle. This image was transferred to a second aquatint plate, on which Tuttle then painted directly with nitric acid mixed to three different strengths before it was printed as spit bite. Printing from two plates what could have been recorded on one, Tuttle further investigates the layering of information with traditional printing techniques. Tuttle later decided to reuse the plate (printed upside down) for the project Nature and Media (2014), exhibited nearby.
