Object Description

29 HELEN OF TROY

Obv. Bust to left. Around, [Greek Inscriptions]
Rev. The Judgment of Paris. Around, [Greek Inscriptions]
Bronze, struck, 48 mm.

Hill attributes the medal to Domenico Poggini, and points out its stylistic similarity to the medals of Sibilla Lippi (Supino, no. 443, pl. 43; Rosati, no. 193) and Lucrezia de' Medici, wife of Alfonso II d'Este (Arm. i, p. 260,36; 3, p. 123G). Hill associates with this group a medal inscribed "Vincentia Arm. na Veneta" (Gall. Naz. Ital. 4 (1899), pl. II, no. 150).
