This medal is similar in style and organization to medals of Charles of Angouleme illustrated in Rondot, Les Medailleurs et les Graveurs de Monnaies, Jetons et Medailles en France, Paris 1904, pl. 13, 5 and to a medal of Francois de Tournon of 1535 in G. Combrouse, Monuments de la Maison de France, Paris 1856, pl. 21. The portrait type is also similar to that of a medal of Henry's brother Francis, first son of Francis I (Tresor France 1, pl. 6, 3). The medals are so clumsy that they may well be restitutions. This specimen in Hotel Drouet sale catalog, 15 June 1923, lot 3.
