This is one of thirty-four medals executed for the Parnasse Francais, conceived by Evrard Titon du Tillet and designed by Louis Garnier. The sculptured group represented the summit of Parnassus, on which Louis XIV as Apollo presided over images and medallions of leading artistic figures. The bronze model was finished in 1718, but the full-scale sculpture was never made.
