Object Description

Series: EVENTS FROM THE LIFE OF CHRIST
384 THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
Christ, wearing loincloth and cloak and holding the victory banner, floats in clouds above the open grave, the cover of which is held by two angels. Around the tomb, four soldiers, of whom two are seated and one tries to flee. Narrow border.
Bronze, 93 x 66 mm.

The middle field of the Lambach Altar, a bronze plate in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum (Inv. No. 70/57), and a few Augsburg and Nuremberg epitaphs are executed after the same design with the addition of two sleeping soldiers at the right.
