389 Series: TWENTY-FOUR SCENES FROM OVID'S METAMORPHOSES
S. THE CONTEST BETWEEN APOLLO AND PAN (Met. 11, 153-79)
Tmolus, appointed judge of the contest, sits upon a grassy hill with the contestants facing each other before him. At the left, Apollo with his lyre; behind him, a maiden with a flute. At the right, Pan playing his pipes; behind him stand two satyrs and King Midas, who has sprouted ass's ears.

Bronze, gilt, 72 x 127 mm. Probably after a reworked model.
