X. VENUS ANOINTS AENEAS A GOD (Met. 14, 585-608)
Above left, Venus, in the company of other deities, asks Jupiter, enthroned in the clouds with the eagle at his side, to take Aeneas into Olympus. In the foreground below, Venus in a sea chariot pulled by two swans anoints Aeneas, giving him immortality. Left, a neriad with two fish; behind her a dolphin; right, a music-making neriad.
