Object Description

414 THE REPENTANT MAGDALENE
The Magdalene with flowing hair, halo and richly decorated mantle, reading a book. On the left, a chalice and crucifix beneath clouds; on the right, a skull; behind at right, clouds and tree.

Bronze, gilt, chased, 108 x 150 mm.

The stylistic origins of the relief are debatable. The handling of the clouds and the damask patterning of the clothing also make a South German origin possible.
