Object Description

412 Series: THE SAINTS
B. SAINT JEROME
The saint kneels, wearing a cloak and halo, holding a stone in his right hand, and looking toward a crucifix in his left. Clouds surround the cross. On a rock at the right, a skull and open book inscribed S I. Below, a lion's head. At the left, a tree, from which hangs the saint's hat.

Bronze, gilt, 103 x 72 mm. Molded border with ring at top.

E. W. Braun owned a lead version painted in oils, the only lead specimen in a series known otherwise only in bronze. Other specimens in bronze are numerous.
