Object Description

425 THE RECRUITMENT—THEATER SCENE (?)
At left stands a young man by a Gothic-like church portal (?). His tricorne in his right hand, he raises his arms with a theatrical complaining gesture. Near him kneels a girl with clasped hands, supported by a man. A woman with half-exposed breast and a helmet with a plume approaches. At her right a soldier who points to a list (presumably at the signature of the plaintiff on the recruiting list), discusses with a man wearing a long wig (perhaps an advocate), in front of a classicistic building.

Bronze, 69 x 180 mm. Hole at top.
