Object Description

Image of a related piece, assembled, entitled "Duchamp in Check," is at https://www.mapr.org/en/art/artwork/duchamp-check (accessed 12-9-2020).

Eight miniature Duchamp "readymades" stand in for one side's king, queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, and 2 knights, while 8 snow shovels replace the 8 pawns; 16 black chess pieces make up the rest of the set. Two compartments contain consumable items to accompany this hypothetical chess game: four wrapped cigars and a bag of "Puro" coffee beans.
