Working on Deer Isle, Maine, Melissa Greene looks to the natural world for inspiration. In Idluk: Fabulous Fish, she carved the intertwined fish encircling the jar into the fine white earthenware. The jar also features terra sigillata, a refined clay slip used by ancient Greek and Roman potters in place of glaze. When burnished, its gloss further enhances the surface.
