Object Description

"six board chest decorated with carved portraits and ornamental wrought iron strapping. Straps end in scalloped ovals with punched bosses; applied with round-headed nails. Shaped iron escutcheon with foliate corners; small roundels inset with wool below hasp. Fitted with a double lock which sits to right. Molding along lower front edge. Lower front legs carved with profile portraits between columns. On right: woman (facing left) in high collar and scrolled headdress; on left: man (facing right) in top hat, neckband, and beard. Evidence of till remains on interior left side of chest."
