Redi was the chief physician to Ferdinand II and Cosimo III de' Medici. This is one of three medals of Redi commissioned by Cosimo; each has a reverse illustrating a dififerent facet of Redi's activity. Here, the reverse of a bacchanal refers to the dithyramb by Soldani, Bacco in Toscana, published in 1685. The inscription means ""I have sung.""
