157 FRANCIS I (1708-65), Duke of Lorraine 1729-37, Grand Duke of Tuscany 1737-65, Holy Roman Emperor 1745-65 1745

Obv. Bust to right, laureate, wearing the Order of the Golden Fleece. Around, IMP . CAES . FRANCISCVS . PIVS . FELIX . AVG; below, A . S [F] ; on truncation, 1745
Rev. Jupiter, on clouds, holding lightning rods, under circular band of zodiac signs. Below, crown and swords rest on altar surrounded by weapons and armor. Landscape behind with ship at left and volcano at right. Around, TANTAE MOLIS ERAT .
Bronze, 86 mm. Hole at top

Coronation medal. Heir to Leopold I, he married (1736) Maria Theresa of Austria and founded the house of Hapsburg—Lorraine.
