Object Description

388 NOLI ME TANGERE
Left, underneath a tree, stands Christ with bared upper torso, hat and cape, supporting himself with his right hand on a spade. With his left hand he warns away Mary Magdalene, who kneels to the right. Between them, an ointment jar. In the background left, a balustrade; at the right, trees. A distant mountain landscape is indicated with houses and clouds.

Narrow border strip.
Bronze, gilt, 83 x 64 mm. Hole at top; a surface crack (cast in) extends through the lower quarter.

With the exception of an altered background, this composition follows the same graphic prototype as the relief by the Master DG, or DGI, in the Kunstgewerbemuseum, Berlin (Pechstein, no. 237). The modeling of our specimen is finer. Another variant of the relief, with a bronze frame, is in the Ciechanowiecki Collection, London (Houston, no. 447).

Bibl: Weber, no. 783A.
