Object Description

398 SCENE AT AN INN
At the right in front of a ladder, three men are seated at a table, under which a dog chews a bone. A fourth man stands behind, and a child stands at the left of the table drinking from a bowl. One of the seated men turns and talks to two older women on the left, one of whom holds an infant. Another child stands at the far left holding a walking stick. Interior of a rustic inn with rough floor. Raised border.

Bronze, 67 x 101 mm. Based probably on an oval or square precursor, as indicated by the unworked corners.

This relief was probably thought of as a pendant to the Selling of Indulgences plaquette (Bange, DM., p. 131, no. 7965, pl. 29).

Bibl.: Weber, no. 1007,2. Auction catalog: Parpart, no. 748, pl. 17.
