Object Description

384 Series: EVENTS FROM THE LIFE OF CHRIST
F. CHRIST BEARING THE CROSS
In the left foreground Saint Veronica kneels and holds out her veil to Christ, who has collapsed under the cross. Two soldiers, one of them stepping on Christ, beat him with a whip and a rope, while Simon the Cyrenian takes up the base of the cross. Behind Veronica a man with a basket runs to the left. In the background, a city gate with portcullis, through which a group of soldiers, led by two cavalrymen, leaves the city.

Bronze, aftercast, 91 x 67 mm.
