B. THE FALL OF PHAETON (Met. 2, 304-24)
On the right, Jupiter in the clouds hurling a thunderbolt at the chariot which was taken from his father Phoebus by Phaeton, who falls into the River Edrinus with the horses and wreckage. Left, the sun; in the background, the shore with hills and houses.
