Karl Friedrich Voigt

(Berlin, 1800 - 1874)

Born in Berlin, Voigt studied first under the goldsmith Vollgold and the medalist Leonhard Posch. He worked in the medallic shop of Gottfried Loos from 1820 until he won an Academy Prize and went to London in 1825. In 1826 he went to Rome where he studied gem engraving with Girometti and came under the influence of Thorwaldsen. In 1829 he was called to be the chief engraver at the royal mint in Munich.
