Jacques Antoine Dassier

(Geneva, 1715 - 1759)

A son of Jean Dassier, born in Geneva, he studied in Paris with Thomas Germain and at the Academy of Design under Bernard and Roussel. He was in Italy in 1736 and 1737, worked with his father in Geneva, and in 1740 went to England where he became an assistant engraver at the mint in 1741. In 1756 he went to Saint Petersburg where he was active at the Russian court for three years. He fell ill and on the return trip to Geneva died in Copenhagen. Jacques Antoine worked on several medals with his father, including the series of Roman history.
