Amadeo Lavy

(1777 - 1864)

Sculptor, painter, medalist, son of Lorenzo Lavy. A student at the Academy of Art at Turin in 1792-93, he worked at the Turin mint from 1794-1826, becoming sole engraver there at the death of his brother Carlo in 1813. In Rome in 1805-06, he met Canova and made copies after him and the antique. Lavy became a professor at the Turin academy in 1822 and a member of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome in 1823.
