Giovanni Antonio Santarelli
Giovanni Antonio Santarelli
(the Abruzzi, 1758 - 1826)
Gem engraver, wax sculptor and medalist, born in the Abruzzi. He was a student of Niccolo Ranieri and was first active in Chieti (1780) and Rome (1785), where he was a friend of Antonio Canova. After 1797 he worked in Florence where he became a teacher of cameo and gem engraving at the academy in 1808.
