Jean Pierre Droz

18th-19th century Swiss artist
(1746 - 1823)

Swiss medalist and coin engraver, who went to Paris in 1764. His medals and technical innovations of the 1780s brought him attention and he was called to England by Matthew Boulton where he was employed at the Soho mint, Birmingham, between 1788-91, when he returned to Paris. Droz was made administrator of coins and medals of France in 1802 and from 1803-14 was keeper of the mint museum.
