John Beasly Greene

19th century American photographer
(Paris, France, 1832 - 1856)

In 1853, Greene embarked on an archaeological and photographic expedition to Egypt, where he crossed the Nile and also visited Beirut, Lebanon, Damascus, Syria and Jerusalem, Palestine. In 1854, the photographs were printed by Blanquart-Everard and published in a volume entitled "Le Nil." In 1854, Greene was a founding member of the Société Française de Photographie, Paris. From 1854-1855, Greene undertook a second Middle Eastern voyage to Thebes and Deir al-Bahri, Egypt. From 1855 to 1856, Greene travelled in Algeria.
