20th century Shigaraki School potter
(Shigaraki, Japan, 1936 - )

Born, 1936 in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. Studied at the pottery training center, Kyoto Municpal School of Arts and Crafts in 1960. In 1973 moved to Kinose Dairino in Shigaraki, built a climbing kiln (noborigami) and single chamber kiln (anagama). Studied under Uichi Shimizu, a living Japanese national treasure. Went to US in 1980 as an overseas art reseacher for the Agency of Cultural Affairs to gather information on contemporary American pottery.
