Titus Kaphar (b. 1976 in Kalamazoo, MI) received his MFA from the Yale School of Art and lives in New York and Connecticut. His Work is in the collections of the Studio Museum in Harlem, NY, the Seattle Art Museum, and other institutions. Kaphar often raises questions about racism in art and society by deconstructing obsolete traditions. Among his most recognizable works are performances in which he cuts patriarchal figures out of replicas of colonial paintings in an act of “Making Space.” His work also encompasses films, installation art, and drawings.
