American 20th-21st century American photographer
(1962 - )

Artist Biography: Born in 1962, Accra Shepp was raised in New York City and educated at Princeton University (BA) and New York University (MA). His photographs have been collected by museums in this country and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He has received several important fellowships, including a Fulbright that allowed him to travel to Indonesia. In addition to taking a lead role in photographing the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011-12, Shepp is well known for a series of photographs made on tobacco farms in North Carolina. He is currently photographing the islands of New York City, a project that was shown at the Queens Museum in 2014. During 2014, Shepp was a visiting professor of photography at Bowdoin College.
