Object Description

Nell (Edward Steichen's granddaughter)
A poignant image of Nell, the daughter of Mary Steichen Calderone, who died suddenly shortly after this picture was taken, plunging her mother into a depression. Calderone recovered and went on to attend medical school. She subsequently became a prominent physician, birth control activist, and sexual education advocate.
